Who I Am

I was raised in the small village of Newberry, Michigan where the only thing you could count on was that there was never much to do. A positive by-product of being raised in that kind of place was that I had to make my own fun. To keep myself enteratined amonst all of the rural splendor, I lost myself in creative activities like illustration, design and music. I decided early on that I wanted to carry these activities with me into my adulthood and ultimately to pursue design as a career.

When I was 17, my family moved to Cookeville, Tennessee, Situated mid-way between Nashville and Knoxville and not too far from Chattanooga. I fell in love with the south during my time there and I consider it my home as much as I do the UP. In spite of my love for the Volunteer State, I was growing tired of twisters and sweating my ass off on construction sites in the soggy southern air so I became a prodigal Yooper of sorts and moved back to God’s Country™

Between Michigan and Tennessee, I spent a decade in the dusty and demanding trade of fine carpentry and woodworking, I was inspired to reconsider my career path and decided to go to school for design online while simultaneously working full time and supporting my family. I earned my degree in design in 2013 and worked as a freelance designer while working full time as a carpenter. During this time,  I was able to combine his two skill-sets to design and create some pretty cool architectural features.

Since moving back to the U.P. I began working professionally full time as a graphic designer in print and web. I've developed an individual style that is campy and nostalgic,  but I have a keen enough eye to understand and implement all design styles. Outside of work, I play, write and record my own music, work on my house, bike, skateboard  and spend time with my family.
